PAPILLON acrylic on canvas 24×20 abstract impression

Butterflies remind me of my grandfather.   His backyard had  a  flower patch and butterflies loved to visit and stay for long periods of time.  It would be in early spring, usually a  sunny and warm day.  I guess that’s when I started loving flowers and butterflies.  I was four years old.  I remembered my childhood while painting  PAPILLON.

RAINFOREST acrylic on canvas 48×36 abstract expression

Tropical islands are my favorite  places to visit for a week of relaxation, I love swimming and snorkeling in the warm Caribbean waters,  the lush green vegetation and the exotic flowers.

Even though the islands have a lot of similarities, I have had a different experience in each one.  I was inspired by Bora Bora for this painting, I was at the Club Med spending a week with my wife,  we had a  small  bungalow raised above water, it was a beautiful setting.  The food, the fresh bread, the cheese and the wine were great and needless to say I was happy. Life was beautiful and I had a great time.

When I got back I could not wait to express the wonderful experience on canvas,  RAINFOREST was created, I have thought of other titles like Bird of Paradise and a few others but at the end Rainforest was my choice.

Isn’t nature beautiful, it’s  good to be alive.

FANTASY acrylic on board 24×24 abstract expression

Abstract expression is a feeling that you paint  spontaneously without thought or planning, for me usually music is my inspiration, I paint while music directs my strokes whether  gently or strongly, light colors or dark.

When I finish the painting and am satisfied with the way it looks, I examine  it to  see if it reminds of anything familiar.

Fantasy reminds me of a circus with a high wire dancer. What do you see?

“Blue Jays” 14″x14″ acrylic on canvas, abstract impression

I enjoy feeding  blue jays that come every morning to our backyard and scream for peanuts in a shell.   I decided to paint an abstract expression of the jays and found myself  hinting the jays in my painting.  I would call that an abstract impression because one can see the silhouettes of the birds.

“Bullfight” 30″x24″ acrylic on canvas, abstract impression

I have been to a few bullfights in my time, very exciting, the music , the warm colors,  you are happy that the toreador prevails but you feel a little sadness that the bull must die.  So it’s a mixed feeling, like the gladiators fighting for their lives knowing that you either live or die. There is a certain majestic powerful and arrogant  look that the bull displays, very intimidating.   The young toreador who looks so elegant but frail in his costume and cape.  A  David and Goliath story.

CORAL 24″x24″ acrylic on board, abstract expression

Snorkeling in St. Thomas is a great experience.  I spent a week there and I was in the water all day snorkeling.  I loved the colorful species of fish, but I was mesmerized by the underwater landscape and the  coral.   I have painted this painting remembering how beautiful  nature is.
