LOVE IS IN THE AIR acrylic on board 24×24 abstract expression

Love has to be one of the most abstract expressions  in life.  Although not easy to define , to me, love is exhilarating, confusing, intense, electrifying.

When you have a white board, paint and brushes and you set out to paint love, you start thinking of the people you love most, your wife, your children,  your mother, father and your friends.  All different kinds  of love, passionate, tender, crazy, platonic.

Some of us are afraid to show love because it makes us vulnerable. Some have had a bad experience and they will not allow anyone else to hurt them, some think that love is a sign of weakness and just don’t know how to express it.

As I get older and wiser, I think love is the most important reason for living.  The people you express love to usually will love you back; which is a great feeling like the song goes ” the greatest thing you’ll ever learn  is to love and be loved in return”.

As you know, I am sure, sometimes Love also works the other way and I will not go into that because this painting is about love.   I would rather think of love as beautiful, happy and caring.   I am the eternal optimist and when I was painting this one I was imagining all the ways I have loved and I realized this painting was not big enough.  Maybe I will use a much bigger canvas for the next one.

In short don’t expect love if you are not willing to love first and show it.   Don’t keep it to yourself, shout it out or paint it out, whichever is easier.

RAINFOREST acrylic on canvas 48×36 abstract expression

Tropical islands are my favorite  places to visit for a week of relaxation, I love swimming and snorkeling in the warm Caribbean waters,  the lush green vegetation and the exotic flowers.

Even though the islands have a lot of similarities, I have had a different experience in each one.  I was inspired by Bora Bora for this painting, I was at the Club Med spending a week with my wife,  we had a  small  bungalow raised above water, it was a beautiful setting.  The food, the fresh bread, the cheese and the wine were great and needless to say I was happy. Life was beautiful and I had a great time.

When I got back I could not wait to express the wonderful experience on canvas,  RAINFOREST was created, I have thought of other titles like Bird of Paradise and a few others but at the end Rainforest was my choice.

Isn’t nature beautiful, it’s  good to be alive.

THE TRAVELER acrylic on board 24×24 abstract expression

We all begin to travel from the day we are born to an undisclosed destination.   Many years ago I had a discussion with a dear and close friend of mine about the length of time our travel could take and I remember telling him no one knows.  There are some of us who will take that time and put it to good use by helping others and being generous and selfless, not only to one’s family but to those who need it.  I think my friend is  one of those people who did not waste his time, he put it to good use.  This painting reminds me of the day we had that discussion. Well done RK.

“Bullfight” 30″x24″ acrylic on canvas, abstract impression

I have been to a few bullfights in my time, very exciting, the music , the warm colors,  you are happy that the toreador prevails but you feel a little sadness that the bull must die.  So it’s a mixed feeling, like the gladiators fighting for their lives knowing that you either live or die. There is a certain majestic powerful and arrogant  look that the bull displays, very intimidating.   The young toreador who looks so elegant but frail in his costume and cape.  A  David and Goliath story.
