PAPILLON acrylic on canvas 24×20 abstract impression

Butterflies remind me of my grandfather.   His backyard had  a  flower patch and butterflies loved to visit and stay for long periods of time.  It would be in early spring, usually a  sunny and warm day.  I guess that’s when I started loving flowers and butterflies.  I was four years old.  I remembered my childhood while painting  PAPILLON.

LOVE IS IN THE AIR acrylic on board 24×24 abstract expression

Love has to be one of the most abstract expressions  in life.  Although not easy to define , to me, love is exhilarating, confusing, intense, electrifying.

When you have a white board, paint and brushes and you set out to paint love, you start thinking of the people you love most, your wife, your children,  your mother, father and your friends.  All different kinds  of love, passionate, tender, crazy, platonic.

Some of us are afraid to show love because it makes us vulnerable. Some have had a bad experience and they will not allow anyone else to hurt them, some think that love is a sign of weakness and just don’t know how to express it.

As I get older and wiser, I think love is the most important reason for living.  The people you express love to usually will love you back; which is a great feeling like the song goes ” the greatest thing you’ll ever learn  is to love and be loved in return”.

As you know, I am sure, sometimes Love also works the other way and I will not go into that because this painting is about love.   I would rather think of love as beautiful, happy and caring.   I am the eternal optimist and when I was painting this one I was imagining all the ways I have loved and I realized this painting was not big enough.  Maybe I will use a much bigger canvas for the next one.

In short don’t expect love if you are not willing to love first and show it.   Don’t keep it to yourself, shout it out or paint it out, whichever is easier.

SUMMERTIME acrylic on board 24×24 abstract expression

Summer is my favorite  season. Everything is easier in summer, no rain, no snow, vacation time, going to the beach, a little swimming, a little fishing, picnics.

I have lived in Toronto Canada, one of the most beautiful cities in the world, winters were hard on me, I used to dream of summer a lot.

When I moved to Southern California, I found the weather that went well with my personality, although you still have different seasons, they are much milder and easy to live with.

George Gershwin’s SUMMERTIME was at my side while painting this one, imagining  the easy living and the fish that were jumping.

Gershwin, what a genius, definitely one of my all time favorite composers.

THE TRAVELER acrylic on board 24×24 abstract expression

We all begin to travel from the day we are born to an undisclosed destination.   Many years ago I had a discussion with a dear and close friend of mine about the length of time our travel could take and I remember telling him no one knows.  There are some of us who will take that time and put it to good use by helping others and being generous and selfless, not only to one’s family but to those who need it.  I think my friend is  one of those people who did not waste his time, he put it to good use.  This painting reminds me of the day we had that discussion. Well done RK.

LA BOHEME 20×24 Acrylic on canvas abstract expression

A tribute to Charles Aznavour, the most influential composer, poet, singer in my life.  I was 17 years old when I first heard his SUR MA VIE and since then he has been in my life as well almost all of my friends’.  LA BOHEME  is one of my favorite songs  being an artist myself, I visualized Monmartre from his description  in an abstract expression. When you are young you see everything positive, colorful and lovely and as you get older things change a little.  Everyone  has a little bit of La Boheme in our lives.  I am happy to say that I still have some LA BOHEME in my life and I  hope you have some in yours too.
